Project Description
Overview
This 27 hole facility was originally an 18 hole facility designed by Ralph Plummer and Byron Nelson and opened in 1980. The City of Grapevine enlisted the assistance of Weibring Wolfard Golf Design to complete a master plan that would provide the necessary upgrades to the 18 hole course as well as add another nine holes. The work was completed over a four year period and the golf course is consistently in the very top of the Best Value rating category for Dallas Fort Worth.
Testimonials
Weibring Wolfard Golf Design was retained by the City of Grapevine to restore and improve the 18 hole Grapevine Golf Course. They also were responsible for designing an additional nine holes. The 18 hole golf course was designed by Joe Finger and Byron Nelson and opened in 1980. WWGD respected the tradition and excellence of the original 18 holes while improving and updating where possible. The site was environmentally very sensitive and detailed planning was involved to comply with the requirements of working in a sensitive floodplain. The design team, lead by WWGD, improved the drainage of the golf course and rebuilt all features to better withstand the impact of inevitable flood events. Getting the golf course opened as soon as possible after a flood event was the goal and it has been achieved without question.
The project from planning start to final punch-list was a five year process and WWGD was a very dependable and capable partner for the duration. Their consistent guidance and support was essential in getting the project completed in a timely fashion with respect to the City’s budget. The public’s enjoyment of the golf product has been vital to the financial success of the facility. We would recommend Weibring Wolfard Golf Design unconditionally for any golf design project.
